Checkers was born on April 11, 1999. He was the last puppy left in his litter.We were pretty lucky! Checkers is very smart. He is very well behaved and knows how to sit,lay down, catch, fetch, shake, beg, roll over and give high fives! In 2005, Checkers had a lump removed from his head. It turned out to be Fibrosarcoma (cancer) but he had a pretty good prognosis so we were hopeful that it wouldn't return. We were very worried when the lump did unforunately grow back. In February 2008 Checkers underwent surgery #2 for his cancer. The Dr was very invasive and tried to get as much as he could. Checkers made a great recovery, but in May 2008 he started having seizures (possibly due to the tumor? We aren't 100% certain). He was started on pheno-barbitol and within 2 weeks he seemed mostly back to his normal self. We are uncertain what the future holds for Checkers, but we are very hopeful that he will be with us for many more years to come!

Sherman was born on May 25, 1999 and is Checkers' half brother. Sometimes he can be a pain in the butt because he is pretty naughty. Lucky for him, he is VERY cute so he usually winds up getting away with everything. He instigates a lot of playing and doesn't like to share his toys with anybody. Sherman has had surgery on both of his hind legs for luxating patellas
